Case Study – Home Addition

A growing family needed an addition to their home for more space in Montclair, NJ

Sometimes in life,  you may find yourself needing more space just as this young family from did. Upon realizing they were expecting a child, they decided to move from their apartment in Brooklyn to the suburbs of New Jersey.

This family was looking for something bigger. They simply couldn’t live in that small of a space anymore. Unfortunately, their new house in Montclair had the same problem. It was too small. This was when they called us for help.

Their home addition project was all about giving them space. We started out by opening up the existing kitchen and living room onto a new family room addition in the rear yard. Between this new family room addition and the driveway, we were able to add an enclosed porch with a new mudroom entry. We were also able to add a guest suite with a new bathroom on the first floor.

On the second floor, we expanded the existing master suite by changing by adding a new master bath over the first floor addition. We remodeled the original master bathroom into a closet to be used by the adjacent bedroom.

The home addition and remodel of the upstairs, allowed us to give this family the space they’d come to New Jersey looking for. We gave them an entire downstairs add on and then utilized the new space upstairs to give them a beautiful new master bath.

As NJ residential architects, our goal is always to do what the client needs, whether that be an addition to their current home, an overall renovation of your house or a brand new home. This case study is just one example of our work. We have done many more home addition projects, as the needs of this Montclair family aren’t unique. Many families need more space. Their houses and apartments are too small. We enjoy building home additions because we want to give these families the space they need.
